WHAT IS ASOS?

Established in 2000 by Nick Robertson, Andrew Regan, Quentin Griffiths, and Deborah Thorpe, ASOS is a British online clothing shop. In its capacity as an online fashion retailer, ASOS makes money by buying clothing at wholesale prices and then reselling it for a profit. Private label or own-brand goods sales fall under this category. With the use of short sales cycles and online and mobile e-commerce as its primary drivers, ASOS further developed the fast fashion business model to establish an ultra-quick fashion model.

HOW DID ASOS BECOME SO POPULAR?

ASOS emphasized stress-free shopping and highlighted goods that their target market was interested in. In response, they became more well-liked, and between April 2015 and April 2016, more than 20% of the UK’s population placed an order.

ASOS has a sizable fan base that favors the company over other, more established retailers thanks to notifications that let customers know when items become available and a priority placed on customer engagement and interactions, which helped the company become profitable four years after its launch. In 2020, ASOS announced a net profit of GBP142 million, a 275% increase over 2019.

As part of their “all-inclusive” philosophy, ASOS achieved this by using “actual” individuals as models and deleting gender-specific areas from their website. Today, ASOS provides items from more than 800 well-known companies, as well as their own brand, ASOS, to millions of customers in more than 190 countries.

WHO USES ASOS?

Who doesn’t, then? With free shipping and returns, worldwide megabrand ASOS has been a success on a global scale. Young adults that want stylish and trendy attire are some of ASOS’s current clients. “A worldwide online community of fashion aficionados,” is how they define themselves. This is clearly visible on their Instagram account! It’s just regular individuals like you and me expressing our passion of fashion and our favorite online retailer, ASOS, with no models in sight.
